Pros and Cons of Wheel-Mounted vs. Track-Mounted Mobile Crushers

Pros and Cons of Wheel-Mounted vs. Track-Mounted Mobile Crushers

25  Oct 2025 0View

The core difference between wheel-mounted and track-mounted mobile crushers lies in the trade-off between terrain adaptability and mobility flexibility: Wheel-mounted models excel on flat, hard surfaces with fast relocation, while track-mounted models perform better on complex terrain with strong stability. The choice depends on the specific working scenario.

Pros and Cons of Wheel-Mounted vs. Track-Mounted Mobile Crushers

I. Wheel-Mounted Mobile Crushers: Advantages in "Speed" and "Convenience" for Flat Scenarios

Advantages
  • Fast Relocation: Can drive directly on highways at a speed of 30-50 km/h, no need for a tow truck. Short-distance relocation (e.g., from Site A to Site B) can be completed in 1-2 hours.
  • Low Operating Costs: Tires wear slowly, and replacement costs are lower than tracks. Daily maintenance only requires checking tire pressure and bearings, no frequent lubrication of track chains, making operation and maintenance simpler.
  • Ground-Friendly: Small contact area with the ground and hard tires, no rolling damage to hardened surfaces such as concrete or asphalt roads. Suitable for operations in urban construction sites and factory areas.
Disadvantages
  • Poor Terrain Adaptability: Can only drive on flat, hard ground. Prone to slipping or getting stuck on soft/rough terrain such as mud, mountains, and gravel piles, making normal movement impossible.
  • Weak Operational Stability: Small contact area with the ground and high center of gravity of the machine. When operating on uneven ground, additional steel plates or leveling legs are required; otherwise, shaking may affect crushing accuracy.

II. Track-Mounted Mobile Crushers: Advantages in "Stability" and "Strength" for Complex Scenarios

Advantages
  • Excellent Terrain Adaptability: Tracks have a large contact area (3-5 times that of tires) and anti-slip patterns, enabling independent movement on complex terrain such as mud, mountains, mines, and construction waste piles without slipping or getting stuck.
  • High Operational Stability: Large contact area leads to a low center of gravity. Even on uneven ground, it can maintain levelness through track adjustment, no need for additional padding. Less vibration during crushing and higher accuracy.
  • Strong Load-Bearing Capacity: Tracks can evenly distribute the machine's weight (especially when equipped with heavy crushing hosts), avoiding excessive local ground pressure. Suitable for carrying heavy components such as jaw crushers and cone crushers.
Disadvantages
  • Low Relocation Efficiency: Track travel speed is only 3-8 km/h. Long-distance relocation must rely on flatbed trucks, requiring additional time for loading and unloading, which increases relocation costs (e.g., truck rental, manual loading fees).
  • High Maintenance Costs: Track chains are prone to getting stuck with gravel and mud, requiring weekly cleaning and lubrication. Track plates and drive wheels need replacement every 1-2 years, with a single set replacement cost up to tens of thousands of yuan and short maintenance cycles.
  • High Ground Destructiveness: Metal track plates are prone to scratching the ground or leaving indentations when driving on hardened surfaces (e.g., community roads, factory floors). Not suitable for scenarios requiring high ground protection.

III. Core Difference Comparison Table

Comparison Dimension Wheel-Mounted Mobile Crushers Track-Mounted Mobile Crushers
